Development of Automated Whistle and Click Classifiers for Odontocete Species in the Northwest Atlantic Ocean and the Waters Surrounding the Hawaiian Islands
نویسندگان
چکیده
The primary objective of this effort is to develop combined automated whistle and click classifiers for odontocete species in the northwest Atlantic Ocean and the waters surrounding the Hawaiian Islands. We will also incorporate ancillary information (e.g. vocalization rate, relative abundance of whistles and clicks, latitude of acoustic encounter) about acoustic encounters into the classifiers in an effort to improve classification the performance. These classifiers will be implemented in an existing whistle classifier, known as the Real-time Odontocete Call Classification Algorithm (ROCCA). ROCCA currently is available to users as a module in the acoustic processing software platform, PAMGuard (Gillespie et al. 2008).

15: Development of Automated Whistle and Click Classifiers for Odontocete Species in the Western Atlantic Ocean and the Waters Surrounding the Hawaiian Islands
The primary objective of this effort is to develop combined automated whistle and echolocation click classifiers for odontocete species in the northwest Atlantic Ocean, the waters surrounding the Hawaiian Islands and the temperate Pacific Ocean. We will also incorporate ancillary information (e.g., vocalization rate, relative abundance of whistles and clicks, latitude of acoustic encounter) abo...
متن کاملGlobal phylogeography of Cassiopea (Scyphozoa: Rhizostomeae): molecular evidence for cryptic species and multiple invasions of the Hawaiian Islands
The upside-down jellyfish Cassiopea is a globally distributed, semi-sessile, planktonically dispersed scyphomedusa. Cassiopea occurs in shallow, tropical inshore marine waters on sandy mudflats and is generally associated with mangrove-dominated habitats. Controversy over the taxonomy of upside-down jellyfishes precedes their introduction to the Hawaiian Islands during the Second World War, and...
متن کاملPANTROPICAL SPOTTED DOLPHIN (Stenella attenuata attenuata): Hawaiian Islands Stock Complex – Oahu, 4-Islands, Hawaii Island, and Hawaii
STOCK DEFINITION AND GEOGRAPHIC RANGE Pantropical spotted dolphins are primarily found in tropical and subtropical waters worldwide (Perrin et al. 2009). Much of what is known about the species in the North Pacific has been learned from specimens obtained in the large directed fishery in Japan and in the eastern tropical Pacific (ETP) tuna purse-seine fishery (Perrin et al. 2009). Spotted dolph...
متن کاملMELON-HEADED WHALE (Peponocephala electra): Hawaiian Islands Stock Complex: Hawaiian Islands & Kohala Resident Stocks
STOCK DEFINITION AND GEOGRAPHIC RANGE Melon-headed whales are found in tropical and warm-temperate waters throughout the world. The distribution of reported sightings suggests that the oceanic habitat of this species is primarily equatorial waters (Perryman et al. 1994). Small numbers have been taken in the tuna purse-seine fishery in the eastern tropical Pacific, and they are occasionally kill...
متن کاملContributions of Atlantic Ocean to June-August Rainfall over Uganda and Western Kenya
This study investigates the contributions of Atlantic Ocean to June-August rainfall over Uganda and western Kenya (KU). The study has utilized the datasets including precipitation from the Global Precipitation Climatology Centre, North Atlantic Oscillation Index (NAOI), South Atlantic Ocean Dipole Index (SAODI), ERA-interim reanalysis, and the Atlantic Ocean Sea Surface Temperature (SST). Singu...
